Griha Pravesh Puja Mantra

Mantras are the sacred sound vibrations that guide every step of Griha Pravesh Puja. Each mantra is chanted at a specific moment, such as while inviting Lord Ganesha, establishing the Kalash, offering upacharas, or praying to Vastu Purusha. Chant slowly, with devotion, and preferably under the guidance of a learned pandit for correct pronunciation.

1. Sankalpa (Resolve)

Before beginning, sit facing East or North-East, purify yourself, and take a sankalpa for a peaceful, prosperous life in the new home.

Meaning: With the remembrance of the Eternal Truth, I resolve to perform the Griha Pravesh Puja of my home.

2. Lord Ganesha Invocation

Lord Ganesha is worshipped first as Vighnaharta, the remover of obstacles. Place His murti or picture in the North-East, offer akshata and flowers, and invite Him:

Offer sandal paste (chandan) and flowers:

Offer incense (dhoop) and show the lamp (deepa):

Offer naivedya (food / sweets) and conclude the upacharas:

You may also chant the short obstacle-removing mantra:

3. Sixteen Names of Lord Ganesha

After the offerings, chant these traditional names with folded hands:

4. Kalash Sthapana Mantra

Fill a copper or earthen kalash with clean water, place mango leaves and a coconut on top, and establish it near the puja seat. Invoke the sacred rivers into the water:

Meaning: O Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Saraswati, Narmada, Sindhu, and Kaveri, kindly be present in this water.

While touching the kalash, chant:

Meaning: Vishnu resides at the mouth of the kalash, Rudra at the neck, Brahma at the base, and the Divine Mothers in the middle.

Offer worship to the kalash deities:

5. Vastu Purusha Mantra

Vastu Puja is often performed before or along with Griha Pravesh to pacify Vastu Purusha and remove construction-related doshas. Offer flowers and akshata while chanting:

Meaning: Salutations to Vastu Purusha, the Lord resting upon the earth. Please always fill my home with wealth, grain, and prosperity.

6. Vastoshpati Sukta (Rig Veda 7.54)

These Vedic mantras address Vastoshpati, the guardian of the dwelling, and are central to Vastu Shanti / Griha Pravesh homa:

Meaning: O Lord of the dwelling, recognize us. Be a gentle and disease-free presence in this home. Accept our prayer and bring well-being to people and animals.

Meaning: O Vastoshpati, increase our prosperity with cattle and horses. May we remain forever in your friendship, cherished like children by a father.

Meaning: O Vastoshpati, may we rejoice in your auspicious assembly. Protect our welfare and endeavors, and always guard us with blessings.

7. Closing Prayer

At the end of the puja, seek forgiveness for any mistakes in mantra, ritual, or devotion:

Meaning: O Lord, if this worship lacked correct mantra, action, or devotion, kindly accept it as complete by Your grace.
